Valentines

I am beginning to get sick of people treating us differently because we are from the United States. We have now been followed twice by mall security around the entire mall. Sean and I went to a shopping center- a good 20 minute walking distance- to get some dishes, clocks, and some groceries. We went through one store and into another and it wasn't until we were getting ready to leave that we noticed a security officer watching us as we were in line getting ready to pay. When we would turn to look at her, she would look away pretending that she wasn't watching us...but she was. She followed us out of the store and then we left so she stopped following us. I don't think I will get used to people staring at us either. Whenever we go into a store, restaurant, or even just walking around people always stare at us. They stare at us as we walk passed them and then we can hear them laughing as they go by. I guess it is a somewhat eye-opening experience that helps me grasp what it feels like to be a minority...even though it is nothing like being a minority in the United States. Even though most international students do not like Americans, I am very grateful and glad to be an American. We are very lucky and fortunate.

I have yet to get on an appropriate sleeping schedule. My body still never knows what time it is. Some nights I get tired at 9 pm and others I'm up until 3 am. My body is just so confused. So today we woke up at 11 am and made some lunch. We then went to the fitness center- a good 10 minute walking distance- to work out. I discovered this morning when I went to turn on my computer that it somehow crashed. The computer came up with an error that said your network can not be found and all of my documents, pictures, files, music was all gone. It really made my day. Luckily, Sean helped and we were able to turn the computer to a backup setting where I could at least get on the internet, but my computer now looks like the old school Windows '98 version. We somehow managed to find all of my pictures thankfully, so hopefully that means all of my other files are still somewhere on my computer. There is a dell store here, but it will be very difficult to figure out how to fix my computer because I am sure that the people in the store do not speak english. I dont know what I will do yet, but at least I am able to get on the internet to communicate with people. After working out we all came back and got ready to go out for a Valentine's Day dinner. Valentine's Day is not really celebrated here. Instead, it is called "Friendship Day." We ended up eating at a nice little restaurant right in the center square. I had a piece of beef with some delicious potatoes and then we had some incredible desserts from the bakery in the restaurant.

They just put up an ice sculpture in the center square of a tiger. It is lit from the bottom and it glows bright green, pink, purple, and blue. When we walked by, we saw people putting coins in the tiger. It looks like they hold the coin on the tiger until it is melted into the ice and gets stuck. So it looks like a tiger with coins all over it-its actually pretty awesome. Im sure it will be there for a loooong time...because it is NEVER warm. We aren't sure what the purpose of it is, but we think it might be for good luck.
