I feel like I am on some strange planet that I can not figure out. So today there was another blizzard during the afternoon. I unwillingly woke up and left my warm cacoon at 9:45-that's sooo early- to go to my Multicultural America class. The weather was cold on the way to class, but nothing out of the ordinary. Once we went outside from class, around noon, there was another blizzard and it was very difficult to see. Once we got back to our room, Sean and I had absolutely no motivation to leave again...so we took a nap and hung out until 7 when we realized we need to go to the grocery store for food. We bundled up like we always do expecting to freeze our faces off. However, I felt like I should have been frolicking around town in my shorts and t-shirt. Not only was it surprisingly warm, it was RAINING. Where can you go to find yourself freezing in a blizzard in the afternoon, and wish you weren't wearing a coat and running from the rain at night? Now, I still could see my breath, but I have never broken a sweat walking anywhere in town until tonight. I just don't get how it can be warmer at night than in the daylight. And rain? Like I said, I feel like I'm in a whole new world.
I think I have decided that I do not like my Multicultural America class. So far we have discussed Native Americans, but the professor never really has anything positive to say about America. I'm a tid-bit offended that these Estonian students in this class are learning negative things about American. It's no wonder no one likes America here. We discussed Christopher Columbus today and we were assigned 2 readings, both of which had negative viewpoints. These readings compared Columbus to Hilter and the massacre of many Native Americans as well discussion how Columbus did not discover America because there were already Native Americans living there. I am going to throw the BS flag up on those claims, but we don't know where this professor is getting his information. We would like to tell him that there are other sides to all of these topics we are discussing, but he has a hard time understanding english so we wouldn't really get anywhere. Whenever there is a question about America, he always looks at us for the answers. Today he told us that we should know the difference between the official date and the traditional date of Columbus day. Did you learn that growing up?-I think not. So we just took a guess and said one was the day he landed in America and the other was the day we celebrate that day. It has only been the third class so I know there is still hope for learning some postive things about multicultural America. But, I might have to say something to this professor if he doesn't start teaching some good things about the American people.
