Stockholm, Sweden

This past week has been very busy with traveling. Last weekend I went to Stockholm, Sweden for a day on a night ferry. This trip was organized through the ESN student entertainment organization. Each semester they throw a SeaBattle party on a night ferry to and from Stockholm. The entire "ferry" which is actually more of a cruise ship, was filled with 2000 international students from Estonia, Finland, Latvia, and Sweden. We all met up in Tallinn, Estonia and took the ferry together to Stockholm, spent the day in Stockholm, and then took the ferry back the next night. This so called "ferry" had 3 lounges, numerous bars, a spa, gift shops, a huge grocery store, and even a night club on the top deck. It was an awesome trip!

Flowers have finally started to grow in Tallinn.

Before SeaBattle, Sean and I went to the Kumu Art Gallery in Tallinn. It is the largest and most famous art gallery in Estonia that contains Estonian and Russian works of art.

Apparently it is WAY cheaper to buy alcohol in the ferry terminal, so everyone buys TONS of it to take back with them on the ferry. As you can see there are 3 carts full, however you can't see the other 2 carts behind them. When I say tons of alcohol, I mean TONS.

Getting ready to bored the ferry!

Our "ferry."

Ceiling mirrors on the ship.

We had an all-you-can-eat buffet the first night on the ferry and believe me, I ate ALL I could. In my 4 months here, I have never eaten so well. That was just my first course!

Watching the sun set on the deck.

One of the lounges. It was tropical themed.

We took the subway from the ferry terminal to Gamla Stan. Gamla Stan is the Old Town of Stockholm which is situated on a little island.

The streets of Gamla Stan.

The Parliament building in Gamla Stan.

The Royal Palace in Gamla Stan.

We found an American Flag and there was NO WAY I was going to pass up taking a picture with the flag.

Stockholm is made up of many islands and there are many ferries offering rides and giving ferry tours between the islands.

After we explored Gamla Stan we walked along the water to Djurgarden, which is another island that has many parks and museums.

The Nordic Museum.

We went to the Skansen Museum, which is an open-air folk museum with more than 150 old homes, churches, shops and schools. It even had a little zoo!

Reindeer.

After we went to the open-air museum we wandered around the downtown area and came across a large park.

The ferry home was similar to the first ferry. There were games, dance clubs, people being crazy and loud. It was a very fun trip.
