Clubin'

Last night we went to Club Illusion, the "Phantom of the Opera" club. Our night didn't start until 12am and it didn't end until 3am. We had a blast. It was Hip Hop night, but they didn't play Hip Hop music that we would enjoy at a dance in the United States. Most of these songs were about 10 years old and I didn't know most of them. These Estonians have a strange way of dancing. I would categorize it as like a middle school dance where they are scared to get close to each other. It is also very strange that the girls dance with girls and the boys dance with boys-pretty wierd. We were one of the only mixed group of boys and girls. It's hilarious to watch the people at the clubs. When they finish their drinks, they set them down on the dance floor and then eventually knock the glass over and break it. Quite a brilliant idea really. They also set their purses on the floor and then dance around them so it doesn't get stolen. HILARIOUS.

There was a blizzard all day today. And I know I keep saying that today was the coldest day so far, but really, today was it. The wind was howling and it felt like I was being stabbed in the face with millions of needles. I'm pretty sure my ear froze this evening. After coming in from outside, I felt my ear and I'm almost certain that some ice fell off. But my ears are still there. It was a whoping 10 degrees today...but that is without the windchill. If you would ask me how cold it was with the windchill, I would say it was roughly -27 degrees...but that's just me. I'm sure an Estonian would tell you, if you could get one to speak to you, that it was another warm, lovely day in Tartu.

Today was Sean's 20th birthday so we celebrated by bundling up and making the 15 minute walk to the city center to have a nice dinner. We went to a Chinese restaurant that had fancy lights and comfortable chairs. Every time we walk to the city center, we have to cross 2 streets that have stop lights. We walk this path 2 times a day, sometime more, and we have NEVER been able to time it right to where we do not have to stop and wait for the light to change to green. We have tried running from one to the other, we have tried walking at all paces imaginable-it's just not possible. We like to spend as little time as possible outside so we don't freeze, so we really hate these lights. And these crosswalks beep! On top of freezing while we have to wait for the light, they beep at you every second and then twice as fast when the light turns green for you to cross the street. If I had the option, I would just cross the street when there are no cars, however you can earn yourself up to a $600 fine if you are caught in the act. I am determined to figure out how these lights work so I will be able to continuously walk from my dorm room to the city center without have to stop once.
